Not sure how to prepare for your shoot? Here are some FAQs and tips that I’ve found to be helpful for clients to prepare for their photoshoot:

  1. What should I wear to my photoshoot?

This will depend on the type of photoshoot you have, but the best rule of thumb when doing photos outdoors: Neutrals are your best friend! This goes for maternity, engagement, family, etc. If you want a second opinion about what outfit you have planned, please don’t hesitate to ask me. For studio photoshoots, we can definitely play more with color, depending on your vision for the photoshoot. If you aren’t sure what you want to do and need help picking an outfit, I’m happy to help!

What should I bring to my photoshoot?

I have my own little go-bag that has the following items in them, however, it never hurts to make sure I have things like the following on hand standby! For outdoor photoshoots, things I recommend bringing are the following:

  • Water: When you are walking around taking photos, it might not feel like it because you’re dressed up, but your body needs hydration, even during a photoshoot. Don’t forget to hydrate!

  • Sunscreen: We are a mile high (even higher when in the mountains) here in Colorado y’all. Being closer to the sun means we need protection from those rays, so make sure you have sunscreen!

  • Handheld fan: This is great for kiddos (and adults) if and when your photoshoot is on a hot day. We don’t want heat exhaustion around here!

  • Comfy shoes to walk in: Especially for outdoor photoshoots, comfy shoes are a must to change into; walking in sandals on a dirt trail is never fun!

  • One (or more) extra outfit: Although I can usually edit stains and blemishes out of photos, having an extra outfit just in case (ESPECIALLY for little ones) is something I would recommend to any and all of my clients so that you feel your best during your shoot!

  • Items for touch ups: Gals, it’s ALWAYS a good idea to have a mirror, small brush, makeup, etc. for touch ups. I'll have a mirror, but you never know when you might a little lipgloss refresh or touch up!

  • Toys and snacks for little ones (and yourself!): Photoshoots can be tough for kiddos, since they are often told to “sit still.” Although I usually go for candid shots of families playing and make sure everyone is having fun, it is good to bring kiddo’s favorite toy and/or snack because it can be used as a reward for taking a few posed photos for holiday cards. It never hurts to have snacks for yourself too. ;)

  • Props/Items you want photos with: Please feel free to bring props you would like photos with! I will also have blankets and little props you can choose from to use for your photoshoot. However, please do NOT bring anything hard to clean up, such as confetti, to an outdoor photoshoot. Leaving any trace of trash can result in fines from the park that you would be subject to paying. If you fail to discard or put away this item for your photoshoot, I will cancel or end your photoshoot and you will not receive a refund for your booking deposit nor will you receive any of your photos.

What are things I should prepare for before my photoshoot?

  • Weather: Weather in Colorado is never predictable; not even the meteorologists can fully predict the weather here. I always check the weather the week of and days leading up to the photoshoot so that we can reschedule ahead of time if we need to. If we have to reschedule due to weather, you will not be charged another booking deposit. I will admit, it would be EPIC to get photos in the rain or snow, but not all of my clients are as willing to get those epic shots, and that is totally okay! Please refer to your signed contract for additional information about my weather policy.

  • Parking and/or Park Fees: If you're wanting to do your photoshoot at a state or national park, please be prepared to pay a fee to enter into the park for your vehicle. Fees will vary depending on the park, so be sure to research parks you are comfortable paying an entrance fee for. This is outlined in your signed contract as well.

  • Traffic: Accidents do happen, and when they do, it can cause a lot of traffic, making it more likely for you to be late. I have a 15 minute grace period for clients to arrive for their photoshoot, but it’s always a good idea to be early rather than late!

  • Cancellation policy: I get it, life happens and emergencies come up. Your safety and well-being is important to me, and I am happy to reschedule with you in the case you have an emergency. Please review your signed contract regarding details about my cancellation policy.
